Safe Sanctuaries Background Checks

Background checks are provided for the Conference by Employment Screening Services. ESS is a Birmingham-based company proven to provide quality background checks quickly returned at a reasonable cost. Shelia Benson is the executive director of Employment Screening Service, a woman-owned small business in Birmingham. The firm offers a full menu of background screening services including criminal checks, business credit reports, credit checks, federal civil records, drug testing, motor vehicle checks, education, employment and reference verifications, peer credit reports, professional license verifications, Social Security number trace, worker's compensation reports, Office of the Inspector General, sex offender checks and electronic fingerprinting. For the purposes of Safe Sanctuary policy, background checks include a criminal check and sex offender check.

To process the form for your church and receive the conference's rate, please adhere to the following instructions: 

  1. Download the form at the link provided above.
  2. Have each person fill it out COMPLETELY (signature, SS#, DL#, full name & address)
  3. Include an email address for the report to be returned. It is recommended that only the person maintaining Safe Sanctuary policies and background checks receive the report (individuals listed on the background consent may also receive a copy for their records). They should be kept in a locked file cabinet, in order to refrain from releasing confidential information.
  4. Background consents are $11 per person. Payment can be made in 2 different ways.
    • Credit Card (which is fastest and preferred): If paying by credit card, you may submit the forms directly to ESS at the fax number or email provided on the form. 
    • Check: If paying with a check, mail the first page of the form and a check for the total amount of consents being run ($11 per person) and send directly to ESS (check payable to ESS). If ANY consents are sent to ESS directly without payment, they will be refused.
