Safe Sanctuary Reporting An Incident
DO NOT SPEAK WITH ANY MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES!
NOTE: Reporting an incident must be a part of your congregations Child Protection Policy
- Determine if allegation is serious or frivolous. In most cases, any allegation is considered to be serious unless you have strong reason to believe otherwise. It is best to report any serious allegation to authorities and let them do the investigation.
- The state of Alabama protects reporters of child abuse from litigation Reporting an allegation or incident in good faith is what is mandated by law. We are NOT responsible for determining the validity of the allegation.
3. Procedure
- secure safety of child/youth if possible
- IMMEDIATELY report incident to Director/Supervisor
- Director/Supervisor reports immediately to Senior Pastor
- Senior Pastor to contact:
- DOES NOT RESPOND TO ANY MEDIA
- DHR/Law Enforcement
- District Superintendent
- Director of Connectional Ministries-who will instruct the next step in the process
- Family
4. Document: in writing all efforts in the handling of the incident
- Date
- Name/Signature/Title of person reporting incident
- Each person contacted (name/title/date)
- Statements
- Action taken
