A great week of Bible fun was evident at Vestavia Hills United Methodist as the congregation welcomed more than 644 children June 13-18, 2010. More than 300 youth and adults were in ministry to share God’s Word through crafts, snacks, music, recreation, science and Bible reflection time.

Each day began with an exciting assembly at the Starship Galactic Praise, and then on to the highlight of the day as the church’s clergy presented the Bible story through drama.

In addition to learning God’s Word, the children brought in daily offerings which totaled $2,400 which will go toward scholarships for Special Needs Campers at Camp Sumatanga. They also collected a total of 1,325 canned goods to fill the church’s food pantry.

Rev. Ruth Grissom, Pastor of Elementary Ministries, says, “This record number of children was a blessing to the congregation all week and continued on through Sunday morning as the children shared songs with the worshipping community. Vestavia Hills UMC celebrates the gift of bringing as many children into the Kingdom every week of the year but we are grateful for the opportunity of Vacation Bible Camp each year when our church family can gather all of our resources for God’s Glory.”

VHUMC is lucky to have Rev. Ruth Grissom. As she responds to God's call for her life, children come to know Christ and the elementary ministries prosper and grow.
