One Great Hour of Sharing is March 14. Materials now available

When the first tremors of the earthquake in Haiti rocked that island nation, UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) staff were already in country, strategizing how United Methodists could help improve the lives of the people there.

Their work is a direct result of the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, which supports the operating expenses of those who bring healing and help in our name. It makes it possible, when United Methodists respond to an emergency like Haiti, to know that 100% of our gift goes directly to where the suffering is happening.

One Great Hour of Sharing will be March 14, 2010. There are resources available for your congregation. Call (888) 346-3862 today to order envelopes and other resources so your congregation can participate in this churchwide offering. They will be sent at no cost to your church! Don't forget the petition passed on Consent Agenda at 2009 NAC in June: Whereas the new 2008 DISCIPLINE of the United Methodist Church states that “Disability Awareness Sunday shall be observed annually on a date to be determined by the annual conference…Disability Awareness Sunday calls the Church to celebrate the gifts and graces of persons with disabilities and calls the Church and society to full inclusion of persons with disabilities in the community…if the annual conference so directs, an offering may be received and the funds used by the annual conference[disability concerns team]…” we call on the North Alabama Conference to officially require (1) that each local church will hold an annual disability awareness Sunday [information and/or speakers may be provided by the conference disability awareness team] and that (2) a special offering will be held on the awareness day and all monies sent to the special disability ministry fund (an 896 fund) of the North Alabama Conference [such money will be available in the form of matching grants [as funds are available] to local churches applying for assistance to make their building/congregation accessible – both architecturally and attitudinally]. - SO, EVERY LOCAL CHURCH MUST HAVE AN ANNUAL DISABILITY AWARENESS SUNDAY & TAKE UP SPECIAL OFFERING FOR NAC SPECIAL DISABILITY MINISTRIES FUND 896.
