In October 2008, two organizations will honor North Alabama Bishop Will Willimon.
On Friday, October 24, the University of South Carolina Columbia Wesley Foundation will hold a dinner to celebration the inauguration of the William H. Willimon Campus Ministry Fund.Bishop Willimon, a native of South Carolina, will offer the keynote address at this event.
Kenneth Nelson, Board Member of the USC Columbia Wesley Foundation explains, “We are very proud of Bishop Willimon and his passion for campus ministry. We know that your Annual Conference is very proud of him as well and we wanted to provide members of your Annual Conference an opportunity to support this fund that will honor Bishops Willimon’s service to the church, and that will impact the life of students on college campuses in Columbia area.”
Earlier that same week, Bishop Willimon will receive the Hope Award for Religious Service at the Foundry’s 9th Annual Hope Awards Banquet. That banquet will be in Birmingham on Thursday Oct. 23, 2008 and will benefit the Foundry Rescue Mission and Recovery Center and Re-Entry Ministries.
The mission of the Foundary is “To restore hope and rebuild the lives of the addict, ex-inmate and the homeless through Christ-centered recovery.”
One of the few of its kind in the Southeast, The Foundry Rescue Mission & Recovery Center provides a 12- to 18- month, Christ-centered, residential recovery program for men and women. It is an interdenominational, non-profit ministry supported by donations from individuals, churches, corporations and private foundations alongside its own businesses through which our residents learn job skills vital to their recovery and raise nearly 70% of the annual budget.
