The General Conference has appointed Bishop Willimon as a member of the United Methodist University Senate. The University Senate provides accreditation, oversight, and support to United Methodist schools, colleges, and universities.
“I’ve been selective in taking on work for the General Church. Having spent over thirty years in higher education, I was eager to take on this role,” said Bishop Willimon.
Bishop Willimon served as professor at Duke University for over twenty years. He is a trustee of Emory University, Birmingham-Southern College, and Huntingdon College. Patsy and Will Willimon have established endowments at Wofford College, Duke Divinity School, as well as endowed lectureships at Huntingdon and Birmingham-Southern College. Bishop Willimon has honorary degrees from twelve colleges and universities.
This year he will give lectures at Cambridge University, Northeastern Seminary, Claremont School of Theology, Memphis and Columbia Seminaries. He will also teach his class on “Jesus Through the Centuries” at Birmingham-Southern.
