Guide to Preaching and Leading Worship Published by Bishop Willimon

4/14/2008

This week Westminster John Knox Press has published Bishop Willimon's popular Guide to Preaching and Leading Worship.  This book has been used in dozens of seminaries and in the Ministerial Course of Study School for the past decade.

"I have completely reworked my earlier book in the light of recent developments in preaching and in worship," said Bishop Willimon.

The Guide has been valued as a concise, practical introduction to the practice of preaching and worship.  Among its features are a step-by-step guide to sermon preparation as well as a process, with questionnaire, to obtain lay reaction to preaching.  The book is dedicated to "Those Who Preach and Lead Worship in the Churches of North Alabama."

Professor Alyce McKenzie of Perkins School of Theology calls the new Guide "both profound and profoundly practical….wise and specific.  This book needs to be on the shelves both of novice and seasoned pastors."

A recent survey by the Pew Forum showed that Bishop Willimon is (with Henri Nouwen) one of the two most widely read authors by mainline Protestant pastors.

"I hope that my reworking of the Guide to Preaching and Worship will enable the book to be of value to a new generation of pastors," said Bishop Willimon.
