On Saturday, August 25, 2012, local church youth workers and student leaders will have an excellent opportunity for encouragement and training. The second annual Youth Ministry Bread and Butter training will take place at Trinity UMC in Birmingham.
North Alabama Conference Youth Coordinator Rev. Clay Farrington explains why this event is so important saying, “Armed with the belief that 99% of youth ministry happens at the local church level, training youth workers is our passion and priority.”
This year's keynote speaker is Jason Gant. Jason leads the student ministries team at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City, one of the fastest growing Churches in America. He is passionate about raising up world-changers and creative worship expression. This is seen in his leadership of Vibe, an all-ages worship service at Resurrection, reaching hundreds of teens and young families. He has authored two books through Abingdon Press; Youth Ministry, and 24 hours that changed the world-youth study. Jason speaks around the country and is a regular contributor to the Immerse Journal-A journal of faith, life, and youth ministry and UMYouthPastor.com.
The day also features wonderful knowledge-sharing in the form of breakout sessions led by experienced youth ministers throughout North Alabama. They are designed to give youth workers and student leaders ideas and insights to enhance local church youth ministry.
Clay explains, “You can count on about 20 breakout sessions covering everything from Games That Make Jr. High Boys Throw Up to Leading Transformative Small Groups and everything in-between; led by some of the saltiest youth ministry lifers in North Alabama.”
Other sessions include
Due to the wide variety of topics, churches are encouraged to send a team of people to the training event and scatter out among the different topics. (There is even a group registration discount!)
The day will also feature time to worship together. Worship will be led by the 2012 North Alabama Annual Conference Battle of the Bands winner: Asbury UMC Youth Band (Hoover).
The registration cost is $15 for Youth Ministers and Adult Volunteers; $10 for Student Leaders (11th & 12th Grade) and College Students; or $60 for a group of 5 people from a local church. Registration includes lunch, a ton of freebies and door prizes as well as the chance to meet and hang out with some of the best youth workers across the state.
