Church of the Reconciler invites North Alabama United Methodists to support ministry with the homeless

5/29/2012

The Church of the Reconciler is a multicultural, multiracial United Methodist congregation with a unique ministry in downtown Birmingham. The congregation offers many ministries and programs to Birmingham’s homeless.  On their website they explain, “While we are first and foremost a church, we also believe that Christ’s message of love and action calls us to make sure that those on the streets are cared for immediately through our feeding, worship, medical, and addiction programs, and holistically as we help them gain employment and transition to permanent housing.”

Senior Minister Rev. Matt Lacey and the Reconciler congregation invite you to support the congregation’s ministry through two current opportunities– thehigh5drive and the annual fundraising banquet.

Thehigh5drive

Thehigh5drive is a way to donate specifically requested items needed for Reconciler’s ministry with the homeless in Birmingham.  To keep in line with the high-five theme, individuals and congregations are asked to group their donations as one of the following packages of five specific items:

  • a re-sealable zipper storage bag containing 1 travel-size shampoo, 1 bar of soup, 1 travel-size toothpaste, 1 toothbrush and 1 travel-size deodorant

  • 4 t-shirts and 1 pair of shorts

  • 5 pairs of new socks

  • 5 pairs of new underwear

When you or a representative from your congregation drop of your donations at the Church of the Reconciler (anytime on Thursdays and Fridays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.) someone will be there to thank you with a high-five and the congregation will post the photo of your drop-off on Facebook at www.facebook.com/churchofthereconciler.

The Church of the Reconciler building is located at 112 14th Street North Birmingham, AL 35203.

Annual Fundraising Banquet

The Church of the Reconciler’s annual fundraising banquet will be Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Vestavia Hills UMC at 6 p.m. The cost is $50 per person or $400 per table. There will also be a silent auction.  All proceeds will go to the congregation’s ministry with the homeless.  The dress is casual (blues jeans are appropriate).
