Julia Street congregation celebrates Biker Sunday

Reaching out into the community in ways that have never been done before has not been a deterrent for the congregation of the Julia Street Memorial UMC in Boaz. On April 22, 2012, Julia Street UMC hosted its first ever "Biker Sunday," which was well received and attended by motorcyclists from all over north central Alabama. Members of two chapters of the Christian Motorcyclists Association participated and one shared his testimony about how his life had been changed since coming to know Jesus Christ. A real air of excitement and anticipation was felt during the worship, testimony and sermon. Several people commented that they felt the presence of the Holy Spirit during the service.

"One of our oldest and dearest members, who just celebrated her 90th birthday, had a great time and even went for a ride on a motorcycle after the service", said Rev. Roger Wilson. "It was a wonderful day and a great way to encourage each other in new ways by reaching outside the walls of the church for Jesus Christ."

You know something special is happening when one of the members commented, "Here it is two hours after the service ended and we're still at church and I don't want to leave!" Amen to that!

The Lord is using Bro. Roger in inspiring ways to bring new life to Julia Street UMC. This church congregation survived a renovation effort most people outside the congregation thought hopeless and without merit. With Divine Intervention providing community support, generous vendors and a blessed general contractor, along with hard work and prayers of the members, the historical sanctuary is beautiful once more, ready to serve the community as God directs. May God continue to bless their efforts.
