Greater Birmingham Ministries is a multi-faith, multi-racial organization that exists to serve people, build community, and pursue justice. We provide emergency assistance to people in need, and we also endeavor to engage the poor and the non-poor in the work of identifying and changing the structures that keep people in poverty. GBM depends on the generosity and commitment of volunteers who may serve on our three work groups: Direct Service, Faith in Community, or Economic Justice. Volunteers are also needed to assist with food and clothing distribution throughout the year, coordinate food and clothing drives for GBM in area congregations/organizations, spread the word about GBM through presentations and outreach fairs, participate in our Constitutional Reform Education program and our Vote for Birmingham initiative, work in our community garden, and participate in our Christmas Project, which assisted over 350 families in 2008 with food, new toys, and new clothing. We also welcome financial contributions that may be made in honor or memory of a loved one. Please visit our website at www.gbm.org or call 205-326-6821 for more information.
