-Lucy Gacheru lived on the streets of Kenya as a child, but as an adult she began taking street children home with her, and eventually built Hope Community Centre for 300 children!  To hear more about Lucy's exciting story and ministry, visit Riverchase United Methodist on Sunday June 24, 2012 from 8:30am-12:30pm and/or at the reception for her 3-4:30pm.

-Rev. David Allison will be leading and exploratory VIM mission team to Bolivia July 29-Aug 9, 2012.  The goal of this trip is for leaders in local churches in the conference to establish and re-establish ties with mission projects in Bolivia and to further develop partnerships with retired missionary and VIM Individual Volunteer Kay Twilley.  If you are interested or would like more information, please contact David at dallison1156@gmail.com

North Alabama United Methodist Conference, Disaster Response Spiritual and Care Team Training
Sponsored by North Alabama United Methodist Conference, United Counseling, United Methodist Committee on Relief
The North Alabama Conference Care Teams will have as their purpose: To be designated listeners for Early Response Teams, have neighborhood walk-through “Information and Referral” teams, provide emotional support at churches that serve as Points of Distribution, provide information to congregations and clergy, be overall “thought leaders” for the Conference spiritual and emotional care response. To clarify, this is not Emergency Response Team (ERT) training, but a different aspect of disaster response volunteering

Basic Care Team Training
Date: June 28, 2012
Time: 9:00-5:30pm 
Location: North Alabama Conference Center, 878 Arkadelphia Road, Birmingham, AL
Cost: No cost. Lunch is provided. Training materials and background checks are also provided.
This introductory training qualifies participants to apply for credentialing as members of the North Alabama United Methodist Conference Disaster Response Care Team. Training focuses on the spiritual and emotional care needs of individuals, communities and congregations following disaster, responses to those needs, strategies for disaster responders’ self care and training on how Care Teams fit into the overall disaster response structure. 
Care Team members will also be asked to complete Conference Safe Sanctuaries requirements, training in an offered Psychological First Aide course, and Early Response Team training.

Care Team Leader Training (Pre-requisite: Basic Care Team Training)
Date: June 29, 2012
Time: 9:00-1:00pm
Location: North Alabama Conference Center, 878 Arkadelphia Road, Birmingham, AL
Cost: No cost. Snacks and materials provided.
This advanced training for Care Team Leaders provides tools and skills necessary to lead Care Team members before, during and after deployment. (Note that Basic Care Team training must be completed first.)
