The new class of Young Adult Missionaries includes Mission Intern Michelle J. Ozier from the North Alabama Conference. Michelle was raised in Huntsville First UMC. With celebratory singing and dancing, 25 candidates processed down the aisle of the Interchurch Center chapel in New York City to be commissioned as US-2s and Mission Interns by the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. The North Carolina Conference has issued a call for trained Early Response Teams (ERT).
The Virginia Conference is still assessing needs following both Hurricane Irene and the recent earthquake.

Back to School with Urban Kids Benefit Concert
Sept. 18, 2011 The Dill Pickers will perform bluegrass, folk and country favorites. A great event for the whole family. $10 per person or $30 per family. Bishop's Lectureship at Huntingdon CollegeSeptember 20, 2011 Bishop Will Willimon and his wife Patsy have establishment of an endowment for the Bishop’s Lectureship at Huntingdon College. Huntingdon has used our lectureship to bring to its campus nationally renowned lectures, most of whom embody both great scholarship and the Christian faith. Bishop Willimon is thrilled that this year’s lecturer on September 20 is Dr. Wayne Flynt. He will be meeting with students and faculty throughout the day, part of President Cam West’s commitment to form Huntingdon students for Christian service to our state. Bishop Willimon encourages all of our people, particularly our clergy, to be present for his 7:30 p.m. lecture on the timely Christian topic, “The Lord is the Maker of Them All: Black, White, and Poor in America."

"Keeping Our Roots...Spreading Our Wings" featuring Red Roots in concert. All proceeds benefit the United Methodist Children's Home. Silent auction begins at 4 p.m. followed by Red Roots in concert at 5:30. Tickets for concert can be purchased separately. $10 per person or $8 for groups of 15 or more. Good outing for youth groups!
