Duncan Memorial UMC - Consecration and Celebration

On Sunday, March 20, 2011, worshippers at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church jubilantly participated in a Service of Consecration of an addition to the church building. The building addition includes two handicapped restrooms, a nursery, and a bridal parlor/Sunday school room. The addition's basement will house three additional Sunday school rooms.

The altar, pulpit, and baptismal font were reconsecrated. All present were blessed and encouraged by the support of the Bishop of the North Alabama Conference, William H. Willimon, and Superintendent of the South East District, Dr. Richard Stryker, as they joined Rev. Mike Densmore in leading this special time of worship. The clergy led the processional, followed by the children and youth who brought in the paraments and other items used in worship. The adult choir ended the processional.

A joint choir, ranging from toddlers to retirees, presented special music. After a time of consecration, the Bishop delivered an inspiring message in which he encouraged all those present to continue to change the face of the church by reaching out to those around us who do not know Christ, even those who may not look, think or act like "us". Following the message to "go forth and bring them in" those in attendance were invited to participate in Holy Communion. The service came to a joyful conclusion as many responded to the call of Christian discipleship and five new members were added to the church family.

Following the worship service was a time of Christian fellowship around the table. Wonderful food filled the bodies as joy and laughter filled the air. All enjoyed a wonderful time as God continued to bless.
