Ashland Circuit Tailgating Charge Conference
The Southeast District Charge Conference season started on September 30 with the Ashland Circuit, which was held at Lineville First UMC. Originally planned as a tailgate party in the Lineville Park, the event was moved inside due to rainy weather, but the spirit was good and attendance was high. Displays around the room illustrated a number of United Methodist missions, ministries and institutions, and participants could pick up literature from the displays. Music and dance was shared by several of the churches, and reports of ministry were given by representatives of each church present. Churches participating were Ashland First, Bethlehem (Lineville), Goodwater, Liberty, Liberty Hill, Lineville First, Mount Tabor, Oak Grove, Pleasant Grove and Shady Grove United Methodist Churches. Those gathered heard from District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Richard Stryker and District Lay Leader Bob Neighbors. Rev. Malinda Weaver, Ashland Circuit Leader, brought a challenging message to the churches on planting seeds for the future. An offering was taken to help with the rebuilding of Gulfside Assembly in Waverly Mississippi and related to the United Methodist Church.
Food typical of tailgating parties was enjoyed. A contest was held for the best dip—chip, fruit or dessert dip. The first place winner was Maria Daigneau of Lineville. Many folks wore t-shirts with church, ministry or school logos, to add to the tailgating atmosphere. It was a fun gathering with lots of visiting afterwards that brought the churches together in good style. |
