Rev. Al Smith Receives the 2012 Denman Evangelism Award

The Southeast District congratulates the Reverend Albert Smith for the recognition received at Annual Conference as the recipient of the 2012 Harry Denman Evangelism Clergy Award. Rev. Robert Sparkman presented the award.

He became pastor of Huguley UMC in the Southeast District in June of 2009.Under his leadership, Huguley UMC has grown into an active congregation with five professions of faith in 2010, ten professions in 2011 and already at fifteen professions in 2012. The pastor and people are on fire with Gospel and are enthusiastic about getting people to know Jesus. A small church, average attendance has grown from 36 in 2009 to 79 in 2012.

District Superintendent Stryker congratulated Reverend Smith on the exceptional ministry and for the work that he and his wife, Paula, are doing in the area of evangelism. We are very proud of Huguley church and the joint ministry of pastor and people.

Harry Denman Evangelism Award began in 1981 to honor United Methodist clergy and lay persons in each annual conference who exhibit unusual and outstanding efforts for the work on Christian Evangelism. Those eligible for these prestigious awards are persons who are effective in helping persons to experience the transforming love of God through Jesus Christ.
