Dreaming big things in small churches sometimes is a challenge; however thinking outside the box may make a difference. For the past three years, the Youth and Children Ministry of Haven Memorial UMC has attended the Youth and Family Convocation in Atlanta, a youth empowering program. This year, Haven Memorial Youth Ministry reached out to other youth ministries within Alexander City to partner for this event. Kellyton Chapel UMC, Mt Calvary Baptist church, Regeneration Praise Dance Team that is composed of children from different denominations, joined us. With God all things are possible, we had fifty-six people registered for the event, twenty-five adults and thirty-one youth and children. With the support of the church and the Southeast District we were able to partner with others for the benefit of the new generation.

The Youth and Family Convocation is sponsored by the Interdenominational Theological Center under the direction of Dr. Anne Streaty Wimberly. Its main purpose is to empower youth and those involved in youth ministry in forming and sustaining relevant and hope-bearing ministries. This year’s theme was, “Claiming Hope: A Vision For Youth and Youth Ministry.” It was a day of praise and worship, learning, and fun for all age group. Featured workshops:

· “Preparing Youth Ministry Leaders for the Current Age” Seminary Professors and Judicatory Leaders

The afternoon session was geared for the youth to showcase their talents, Regeneration Praise Dance Team from our group performed. The Berean Community Drumline from Berean Baptist Church Brooklyn, New York was the highlight of the afternoon. It was featured as a way of doing youth ministry outside the box. Our young people and adults were inspired and are looking forward to next year’s event.
