The role of the Director of Student Ministries is to assist the Pastor and staff in shepherding the Junior and Senior High youth in their relationship with Jesus, the church and the world. Director of Student Ministries will work alongside clergy and lay ministers to carry out this mission as a member of a team in ministry. Evidence of an authentic & growing walk with Jesus Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, and fellowship will be unmistakable in the Director of Student Ministries. 1.Key Responsibilities As Director of Student Ministries In accountability to the Senior Pastor and cooperation with other staff, the Director of Student Ministries will develop ministry and outreach with and to Junior and Senior High students. The Director of Student Ministries shall be in communication with the pastor at least weekly to coordinate program and ministries on a continuing basis. The youth program at Edgemont is an integral part of the church; as such the Director of Student Ministries will participate in worship, Sunday school, and other church events, and encourage the students to also participate. Responsibilities include: a. Developing goals and objectives for student ministry area in line with the strategic plan as set forth by the pastor and Administrative Council. b. The Director of Student Ministries will make monthly reports to the Senior Pastor and, attend bi-monthly meetings of the Church Council, on ministry activities, plans and accomplishments. c. Assessing ministry needs and developing programs and activities to meet those needs. d. Serving as a Biblically sound, Wesleyan, motivating, inspiring and engaging teacher and mentor to students as part of a larger plan for the spiritual development of our students. e. Directing a student ministry worship program and developing students to lead worship. f. Developing a climate for students that is safe, supportive, and cultivates spiritual growth. g. Adhere to the policies of the church and also Safe Sanctuary. h. Addressing specific personal and spiritual needs of students as they arise through one-on-one or small group meetings, hospital visits, school visits, office hours or other connections appropriate to the circumstances. i. Communicating clearly and often with the pastor, staff, parents and church the plans and events of the youth ministry. 2. Staff Supervision and Development a. In coordination with the pastor and staff respond appropriately to pastoral needs of the students and their families. b. Providing training and leadership opportunities for youth and youth volunteers c. Developing lay leaders who can love and lead our students as disciples of Jesus. d. Oversee, plan and implement volunteer recruitment, training and development. 3. Administration. Working in conjunction with the Youth Coordinator & Discipleship Team, the Director of Student Ministries will strengthen the programs and activities with young people through: a. Development of short and long-term goals and plans for the ministry. b. Development and implementation of an annual calendar of activities and programs that promote relationship development and discipleship at levels appropriate to the group. c. Development and management of the annual budget for Student Ministries. d. Communicating youth plans and events through appropriate media. e. Responsiveness to communication demands which arise through personal interaction, email, and telephone contacts. f. Building relationships with schools, churches, and para-church organizations that support our efforts to reach students in the church and the community. 4. Evaluation and Compensation: With the Senior Pastor’s participation, the Staff/Parish Relations Committee will conduct a biannual performance evaluation and an annual review of compensation package. Qualifications: 1. Have previous experience working with youth. 2. Exhibit an understanding of youth ministry in the United Methodist philosophy, preferably a member of the United Methodist Church Salary and Benefits 1. Salary to be determined by the Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations committee, based on 15-20 hours/week. 2. Reduced workload and office hours during holidays except for special church and youth events. 3. One week paid vacation for the first two years, two weeks in following years, time to be approved by the pastor.

Crafters Wanted for Sounds of Sumatanga

Sounds of Sumatanga is a day of music, food, and fun by the lake at the beautiful Camp Sumatanga. The celebration is held each year in support of the camp. Director of Children's Ministry

Roswell UMC in suburban Atlanta, Georgia is currently seeking a full-time Director of Children’s Ministry, directly responsible for the comprehensive, Christian discipleship of more than 300 children from birth through fifth grade. This position provides leadership for the Children’s Ministry team, which includes a four person professional staff and over 75 adult volunteers in its Sunday morning nursery and Kidz Zone large group/small group program for preschool and elementary, as well as additional ministry programs such as Vacation Bible School and Morning in Bethlehem. Qualifications of a successful candidate include: • Minimum of bachelor’s degree with Christianity and Christian Education/Children’s Ministry credits. Certification in Christian Education or Children’s Ministry is preferred. • Child development expert – birth to older elementary • 7-10 years professional, local church experience with at least 3 years as a proven servant leader/manager/team builder of staff and volunteers. • Broad and current knowledge of curriculum resources and educational strategies/philosophies within the UMC; champion of the Wesleyan tradition. The Children’s Ministry team works out of two buildings that house: a 400-seat elementary Kidz Zone auditorium with state-of-the-art staging, sound, and lighting for live productions; two centralized, computer check-in centers; 21 small group meeting rooms; the Children’s Library; four furnished nursery rooms; and indoor and outdoor playgrounds. The Youth Ministry at Hewett Memorial United Methodist Church in Albertville is growing active and live. One of the things that is happening is the formation of a youth worship band which leads worship every Wednesday Evening at our Student Worship Service.
